Partner Universities

The CulTech project brings together several leading academic institutions that contribute with expertise, research infrastructure and interdisciplinary knowledge in fields related to cultural heritage, digital technologies and advanced scientific research.

These universities play a key role in the development of innovative methodologies, digital tools and scientific approaches aimed at improving the documentation, analysis and dissemination of cultural heritage. Through collaboration between researchers, laboratories and research centers, the partner universities support the project’s objectives and contribute to the advancement of interdisciplinary research.

(P1) Universitatea Ovidius din Constanta (UOC)

UOC has the expertise in implementing cultural heritage dissemination projects through virtual and augmented reality solutions, through the team of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Research Laboratory (CeRVA), involving artificial intelligence techniques, such as multi-agent systems, machine-learning, web semantics and ontologies, but also NLP tools applicable in interactions with virtual agents. In addition to these, the technologies of motion capture through optical systems and those of multimodal rendering through haptic feedback, are part of the tools used in the research of the UOC team for the last 15 years. The declared competencies of the team members are: 3D modeling, implementation of VR/AR systems, implementation of haptic feedback systems, behavioral modeling based on multi-agent systems, creation of domain and activity ontologies, use of machine-learning algorithms for extracting of features of artifacts, NLP algorithms development, quantitative/qualitative validation of digital models, implementation of vocational agents, user movement recording, virtual character animation, rapid prototyping. By collaborating with UTCN, the UOC team will develop its expertise through 3D digitizing techniques (modeling, 3D scanning and photogrammetry). By involving the USM in the design and implementation of multi-modal gestural dialogs between the user/visitor and the virtual environments, populated with virtual (vocational) agents, the UOC will improve its expertise in terms of non-verbal interaction. These achievements will be the premises of UOC collaboration with the museum’s partners to implement interactive exhibitions, open to the public. The team consists of 9 people (3 women and 6 men) of which 2 professors, 5 associated professors, 1 lecturer and 1 assistant) to which 2 PhD students will be added.

(P3) Universitatea „Ștefan cel Mare” din Suceava (USMS)

The Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava ranks number one among all Romanian universities on patent applications demonstrating a robust technical, financial and administrative environment that encourages and promotes research and innovation.  It has 15 research centers and over 30 research modern laboratories equipped with a wide variety of state-of-the-art high quality equipment (over 130 large equipment of which 21 with an individual value of over $120,000).  The University collaborates with more than 100 universities and other research institutions worldwide. USV plays a key role in the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge.  with more than 10 journals indexed in international databases. The Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava has 19 research laboratories. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science provides modern equipment and facilities: The Advanced Multifunctional Materials Laboratory (NANOMAT), Research Centre in Electrical Machines, Apparatus and Drives, The Electromagnetic Compatibility Research Laboratory – EMCLab (www.emclab.ro), Fundamental Energetics Research Laboratory, Laboratory for Research of Hysteretic Systems, Laboratory of High Performance Computing applied to Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, The Pattern Recognition and Image Processing Laboratory, Radio identification devices and short range devices laboratory. The research at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Automotive and Robotics is conducted in laboratories with modern equipment and highly qualified staff. The Research Centre in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Environment and Management is a landmark of precision and accuracy. The main scientific fields of research focus on contact mechanics and tribology, advanced manufacturing technologies, systems management, heat transfer in micro and nano channels, characterization of metallic and nonmetallic materials, robotics in flexible manufacturing, magnetorheological finishing, modelling and simulation in mechanical engineering. Advanced research labs and infrastructure, and a collaborative culture with many European partners, improve research and generate innovation. The team will consist of 12 positions, 5 included as project responsible and key members in the project application (2 women and 3 men). Additionally, 7 persons will be employed: 2PhD students and 5 senior and junior researchers.

(P4) Academia Națională de Muzică „Gheorghe Dima" (ANMGD)

Founded in 1919, the “Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music (ANMGD) in Cluj-Napoca is an institution of higher musical education (undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels). The institution also comprises the Ethnomusicology Research Center, the InterArt Artistic Creation Center, and the Center of Excellence in Distance Learning (accredited by CNCS), four specialized periodical journals (ICT in Musical Field, Music Cognition, Musicology Papers, Ethnomousikologion). Since 2022, the Ethnomusicology Research Center has been engaged in the research of folklore in Transylvanian dialectal territories, archiving and studying documentary material. The Center organizes the International Ethnomusicology Conference annually, now in its third edition, and publishes scientific results in the Ethnomousikologion Journal (undergoing indexing in international databases). In 1994, the Romanian Traditional Music Ensemble “Icoane” was founded within ANMGD, under the coordination of Prof. Ioan Bocșa, with the aim of restoring and presenting to the public folklore materials collected in the field, accompanied by significant audio CD productions. Throughout its existence, ANMGD has been a partner in major European projects such as IncluMusic (coordinators) and In Media Stat Virtus (ERASMUS+ KA2 Strategic Partnerships), Phare-Multi Country Cooperation in Distance Education, Thenuce (The New European Continuing Education Network), Eullearn, Vemus (Virtual European Music School), Prelude (Training teachers on ICT), and DIMA (Direct Impact Multimedia Application), Erasmus Partnerships and mobilities, etc. In the past 18 years, the Department of Distance Learning (DIDFR) of ANMGD has successfully conducted its activities based on digital platforms and the E-learning Laboratory. The institution’s curricular area has been enriched in recent years, covering innovative fields such as E-learning, musical instrument repairs and maintenance, musical mediation, personal management and branding, music notation, and sound restoration of traditional repertoire, etc.
